Virus often hides our folder option from the menu bar of windows. We need to fix this option to work with several options like manage hidden computer files, file association, etc. Today I am publishing this solution to you to fix the broken folder option on your explorer menu bar.

Before the process, you should remove the existing PC viruses with a good antivirus.

After cleaning the computer do the following-


First Method:
Go to Start --> Run; type "gpedit.msc" in the box --> press OK. The Group Policy (GP) Editor window will open.

Navigate down to:

User Configuration --> Administrative Templates --> Windows Components-->Windows Explorer.

In the pan on the right hand side, Double click on “Removes Folder Options menu from Tools menu” and select the Disabled option.

Close all windows explorer windows and then open again. Or you better restart your computer. Your Folder Options should back.


Second Method:

If the method described above does not work then you can enable the folder options by editing the windows Registry.

Note: [You have to be careful and you should know what you are doing]

Start --> Run--> type "regedit" then press OK. The registry editor will open.



Go to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer

In the pane at the right hand side, see if there is a value called "NoFolderOptions"
If yes then double click on it and change its value data to0.

If you don’t see any NoFolderOptions then Right click in the right side pane and select New--> DWORD VALUE.

Name it as "NoFolderOptions". Double click on it and put 0 as its value data. That means you’re forcing the explorer to show folder options.


By this way you will surely get your folder option back.

But you have to remember one thing. If you have virus running in your system then you better remove those first. If you do not do that, there is every chance that after you restart your computer the virus will run at startup and will disable the forlder option again.

The Third Way:

This has been my favorite way to get back folder option. This is a small free program that will do all the job.

The steps are easy. no instalationneeded just click on rrt.exe check the box "folder option" then click fix it . Its all done.

Note: some free antivirus detect it as virus. Be sure, this is not any virus, I am using it for more than 2 years. good luck.
